Ambulance New Brunswick Opens New Station in Saint-Léonard

SAINT-LÉONARD, NB – Several government and Ambulance New Brunswick (ANB) officials were present at today’s official opening of Ambulance New Brunswick’s new Saint-Léonard station. ANB’s President and CEO, Alan Stephen was joined by Honourable Madeleine Dubé, Minister of Health; Honourable Martine Coulombe, Minister of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour, and Mr. Carmel St-Amand, Mayor of Saint-Léonard at the ceremony.

“Ambulance New Brunswick has some of the most dedicated paramedics in the country and they deserve the best tools and facilities possible so they can deliver a world class service to New Brunswickers,” said Alan Stephen, President and CEO of ANB. “This new station in Saint-Léonard is doing exactly that.”

More than a dozen new stations have been built around the province since ANB was created in December 2007. In the upcoming months, ANB looks forward to adding Campbellton, Dalhousie and Grand Manan to that list.

“I am confident the residents of the Saint-Leonard region will be well served with this new ambulance station,” said Health Minister Madeleine Dubé. “I would like to thank our paramedics for their excellent work in this community. This is another example of the dedication this government has to emergency services in this province.”

The new station in Saint-Léonard is resistant to hurricane-force winds and seismic loads. The building has in-floor heating throughout. Furthermore, the exhaust system in the one bay garage is ultra modern as it removes both vehicle exhaust fumes and garage humidity automatically. The garage also has an NO2 detector system which will make an audible alarm warning if exhaust fumes get too high.

“The municipality of Saint-Léonard is pleased to have entered into an agreement with Ambulance New Brunswick and to welcome them to their new location in the new Regional Emergency Centre,” said Mr. St-Amand.

Ambulance New Brunswick was created by the Government of New Brunswick in December 2007 to deliver a world-class land, air and emergency dispatch ambulance service throughout the province. Today, Ambulance New Brunswick has more than 900 paramedics stationed across the province. Every year, they respond to nearly 100,000 calls. The air ambulance service performs more than 500 emergency calls every year transporting sick and injured patients to specialized hospital care across the Maritimes and as far as Toronto and Montreal.
